The Whale Shark Swim Tour is offered during the summer season near Contoy Island, a protected natural area. Tours departing from Holbox head to the deep blue waters, about 20 kilometers east of Contoy, where whale sharks are most concentrated.
This unforgettable experience allows you to swim and snorkel near these gentle giants, guided by an expert, and witness the incredible nature that has amazed visitors from around the world.
About 43 kilometers east of Holbox lies Cabo Catoche, the point where the Caribbean Sea meets the Gulf of Mexico. This area is known for its pristine beaches and stunning scenery. With its rich marine life, it’s an ideal destination for fishing and snorkeling.
Dolphins: In the waters beyond Cabo Catoche, there’s a high chance of spotting dolphins.
Fishing: North of Cabo Catoche, we catch moderate-sized fish — just enough to prepare fresh ceviche.
Snorkeling: The Cuevones area is about 2 feet deep, perfect for spotting various fish and soft corals. Under the rocks, nurse sharks often hide, and you may also see hawksbill turtles, octopuses, and lobsters.
Beach and Mangroves: We relax on untouched beaches, enjoy ceviche, and collect shells. If the tide is high, we return through the Holbox mangroves to reach the other side of the island.
Bioluminescence in Holbox is a natural phenomenon that occurs on the island’s southern beaches and can be seen on moonless nights. It’s a stunning display where the shoreline waters glow with light produced by microscopic plankton that illuminate when stirred by waves.
The glow is often bright enough to see fish swimming through the light. These countless sparkling points are bioluminescent plankton — tiny organisms that, like fireflies, emit their own blue light.
This phenomenon typically occurs from July to January. We offer a 1-hour guided tour for those who wish to experience this magical natural spectacle.
